I've had a wide variety of jobs throughout secondary school and college. My first job was working in Bombay Panty Glenageary, an Indian takeaway. I eventually worked in their factory during COVID, cooking the sauces and meat for their ready meals.
During Erasmus, I went to Cuenca in Spain. I was an assistant English teacher in a secondary school there. Most recently before working in Forvis Mazars, I was a receptionist in Killiney Castle. I did an internship at Forvis Mazars last summer before starting the graduate programme. I went to school in Blackrock and college in DIT. I studied international business and languages (Spanish).

Tell us a bit about your background before Forvis Mazars
What made you choose your current career and what appealed to you about Forvis Mazars?
The level of interaction with clients and the variety of my daily tasks surprised me the most. I thought that there may be a fair amount of repetitiveness but was mistaken. Financial management and outsourcing is a department with many roles and my workday reflects this.
How were the first few months of our graduate programme?
My workday is not too repetitive and each day brings something new to work on. To a certain extent, I am a creature of habit, particularly when it comes to my lunch. The Spar up the road is great value and I have always loved chicken fillet rolls. I get the DART to work. usually finnish work at half 5. I typically go to the gym/sauna in the evening.
Can you describe a typical day at Forvis Mazars?
My team are all very friendly, I have had nothing but good experiences with them. This includes everyone from trainees and seniors to managers. The culture is great in Forvis Mazars, questions are received with enthusiasm and help is
always given freely.

What advice would you give to someone considering applying for our graduate programme?
My advice on applying for the graduate programme is to be honest about your interests and abilities. Although I had done a bit of accountancy throughout my education, it was not to a high level. I was honest about this and have received training tailored to my ability.
I would advise applicants to be prepared to balance both work and study, although most would have experience
with this from college.
Again, I would advise a balance between work and study. Also, the importance of making good use of your free time outside of work and study. Asking questions and not being embarrassed for not knowing something is also particularly important. I would also advise everyone to try the hot chocolate in the canteen, it is very nice. Particularly mixed with a double espresso!

Q&A with Eoghan
I enjoyed accountancy throughout college and school. This, together with the opportunities available to accountants, helped me to decide on this career. I consider myself a kind and moral person, and I believe my values align with the values of Forvis Mazars.
I heard of Forvis Mazars through a family member, they had projects that they worked on audited by Forvis Mazars in the past.I wouldn’t have an exact timeframe for when I chose my career. Although, it was in my final years of college that it became more concrete.
