Tell us a bit about your background before Forvis Mazars
What made you choose your current career and what appealed to you about Forvis Mazars?
It’s a big change from a college lifestyle, attending a few hours of class a day compared to a full working day. However, after a few weeks, the transition became easier. When I started, my department eased me into the role and helped me gain a better understanding of the basics. Staff events helped me meet people from different departments and introduce myself to others.
How were the first few months of our graduate programme?
My workday starts at 9:00am and I begin with timesheets and sorting emails. We delegate the workload in my department. It mostly consists of liquidation work such as MVLs and CVLs, updating the bank receipt and payments accounts, compliance work for our companies in liquidation, AML work, M&A, valuations, projections and insolvencies. My favourite part about working in Financial Advisory is that every day is different. I’m a 25-minute bus ride from the office and sometimes work from home. I often bring my lunch and have it with my co-workers in the canteen. I finish at 5:30pm, get home for food, and then head to the gym or for a puck-about with my housemates.
Can you describe a typical day at Forvis Mazars?
My department gets on very well and works efficiently together. There’s a partner, director, manager, two trainees and two more joining the team in October 2024. Eight other trainees started with me in September and we are all quite close. We support each other and get to socialise together.

Don’t be afraid to make a mistake, you will improve from it. I was told to “be a sponge” and absorb all the information I can, that it would help me gain a getting a better understanding of the role. It will take time before you start to get a grasp of the work, but that’s part of the learning.

Q&A with Caldwell
In my final year of college, I didn’t exactly know what career I wanted to pursue. I researched financial advisor roles, and it appealed to me. I was hoping for a position in Limerick. Forvis Mazars have an office there, and I came across the Financial Advisory role in the graduate programme. I applied online, was called to interview and luckily, I was offered the role.

My parents have been my biggest influence growing up, seeing how hard they work every day, inspired me to get a good job. The world of finance has also engaged me and is a one of the main reasons I picked this role. A career with good prospects also motivates me and helps push me to reach my goals.
